Located just a few miles outside Haleiwa off the Kamehameha Highway on the North Shore of Oahu is the friendly spot Chun’s Reef. It is a wide sandy beach typically hosting beach umbrellas, icy coolers, locals and their family pets. The shoreline at Chun’s Reef is rocky, with sandy areas good for swimming. This reef offers up both lefts and rights known to be mellow and perfect for longboarding. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Chun’s Reef?
Gets good between waist high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard normally and a shortboard for the biggest days. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will usually have a laid back crew (6/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, and Northwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round here. Water temperatures don’t fall below 24 and range as high as 27. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
