Easily one of the best waves in the south Pacific. This wave used to be reserved for guests of Tavarua resort but since the government opened up the rights it’s now available for everyone to surf! You just need to organise a boat from one of the local resorts.
The alignment of the outer reefs means that unless the swell is dead SW then your options are always going to be limited.
Tavarua Rights is a world-class reef break with waves breaking over a coral reef. Some waves can offer challenging barrels and can run for up to 200 meters.
What are Tavarua Rights’s best surf conditions?
The best wave size is overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard or step-up when it’s bigger here. Tavarua Rights in Mamanucas and Viti Levu is best suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, the waves that are consistent (7/10) and can get busy depending on conditions (5/10). The best winds for Tavarua Rights are Northeast. The best swell direction is from the Southwest
Surfing here in summer we recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top in stronger winds. The warmest water temperature is a warm 27 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing similar, boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top with the coldest temperature in June being a warm 24 degrees!
