Often referred to as Cloudbreaks little brother, this dreamlike left sits right in front of the dining area at Tavarua Resort.
A playful skatey left-hander with long rippable walls and machine-like barrels. When Cloudbreak is maxed out, Restaurants is the place to be as its always a bit smaller. The average wavelength is 50-150m with barrels up to 13 seconds long not unheard of.
Restaurants is a world-class reef break which is not be surfed on a low tide as its too shallow with razor-sharp coral lurking just below. A firing day at Restaurants is the closest thing to surfing a wave pool you can get.
What are Restaurants’s best surf conditions?
The best wave size is between head high to double overhead. We recommend riding your standard shortboard or step-up when it’s bigger here. Restaurants in Mamanucas and Viti Levu is best suited to intermediate to advanced surfers, with waves that are pretty consistent (6/10) and usually has a crew when it’s on (6/10). The best winds for Restaurants are South to Southwest Swell with South to Southeast winds to match.
Surfing here in summer we recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top in stronger winds. The warmest water temperature is a warm 27 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing similar, boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top with the coldest temperature in June being a warm 24 degrees!
