Located in Northern Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, Pitstops is a fun right-hand reef break that offers up a slightly mellower experience than other waves in the area. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a coral reef. This spot is a favourite with longboarders and intermediates looking to get warmed up for the more challenging waves in the area. Boat access is the way to go, but it is becoming more crowded here as camps are providing ground access
What are the best surf conditions for Pitstops?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will generally have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini, plus a wetsuit top in strong winds, year-round where the water temperature varies between a warm to balmy 25-29 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
