La Grande Plage is a beautiful beach break in the city center of Biarritz. Because of its exceptional location and the fact that there is always something to surf, this sheltered spot gets really busy. And not only during Summer! There is a live camera if you want to check the conditions before giving it a go.
It starts working from 1ft and can handle up to 8ft. Although waves here can be heavy, they are usually less gnarly than the barrels of Hossegor. And when the swell is a bit too big for Anglet, La Grande Plage will often be your best option. The rocks on the south part of the beach play a part in shaping the banks and protect the spot from the S-SW winds, even when they are strong.
Best times to surf La Grande Plage are low and mid-tide. With a NW swell, you might get a fast and hollow right just in front of the Casino. On the southern end of the beach, next to the rocks, you will find a very fun left, that works best with a SW swell.
