Located on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Point Leo is an excellent but treacherous reef/point break with a rocky bottom. The waves here are generally gnarly and can break for up to 200 meters across the rock shelf, serving up barreling sections as well as open faces. The take off is sucky and shallow, straight into a barrel which then tapers into an open face.
What are the best surf conditions for Point Leo?
Gets good between head-high to double overhead. We recommend riding your gun, standard shortboard, or step-up here. Point Leo is best suited to advanced and pro surfers. There is generally a wave to surf here (5/10) and the break can get busy when the swell is on (5/10). The best winds for Point Leo are west. The best swell direction is from the Southwest, and it is advised to surf it only at higher tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in summer with the warmest water temperature a chilly 16 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 12 degrees! See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
