Located south of Adelaide, South Australia, Middleton Point is a fun point break that rolls over a rock and sand bottom. This wave isn’t too difficult to surf and is a good area for beginners/improvers. The wave can be soft and crumbly, breaking for up to 200 meters providing plenty of opportunities for turns and cruising.
What are the best conditions for Middleton Point?
Middleton Point gets good from around waist-high to triple overhead. We recommend riding something with some volume when it’s smaller, a longboard or fish, and a shortboard when it gets larger. The surf is suited to all levels of surfers. The surf is consistent (7/10) but will get super crowded (9/10). However, due to the spread-out nature of the break, it can handle large numbers of surfers in the water. The best winds are from the North, although it also works on onshores. It works best on a mid to high tide, and a South, Southwest, or Southeast swell will deliver the goods.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer with water temperatures hitting 17 degrees in February. In winter we recommend wearing a 4/3 wetsuit with temps being a brisk 14 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
