Located in Central Morocco, Essaouira is an alright beach break that offers up some decent waves for performance manoeuvres. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. This turned into a windsurfing mecca in the 60’s, but when the winds are down the waves are usually pretty good.
What are the best surf conditions for Essaouira?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 18 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
